In which we ramble on.
And by we, I mean me.

Signing is Finally Done!

Also, there's a hurricane headed straight for my house. It's over me already. I can hear the rain of baby alligators hitting the roof, and the wind has blown at least three umbrella-carrying British nannies past me already.

I'm trying to get this blog out before I inevitably lose electricity and have to power my house by jogging in my giant hamster wheel.

So anyway, I just finished (yesterday) signing the pages for all the Kickstarter books! That took a while, because--believe it or not--there are a lot of you who backed the Kickstarter.

23,600 books signed!

I'd like to say my signature improved significantly with all that practice, but the truth is that some look really nice, while others look like my name is V11. If you got a messed-up-looking signature, treat it as an extra-special wrist-fatigue edition.

Also, I added a thank-you note to the very last page I signed! If you get that one, let us know, because I have absolutely no control over who gets it. Like Willy Wonka's golden ticket.

It's going to be hilarious if I end up getting it in one of the special editions I ordered. I'll have to take myself on a whimsical tour of my own magical writing factory.

Now, it's back to writing! Once this storm passes, anyway. Although I could keep writing even during the hurricane. I'll just do things the old-fashioned way and unpack my parchment and quill.

-V11

Awesome! Keep up the good work and be safe out there!

I would have to power my house with hundreds of hamsters trained by children operatives living in a treehouse.

"a whimsical tour of my own magical writing factory" is code for "here's my plastic table."

A special note?! Goddamn. Now I’ll have to spend my life searching for that one book. I’ll teach my children and grandchildren to search for it. My family will be consumed by the curse of The Search. It will drive my descendants to madness. Until the day… the glorious day when my great great grandchildren lay claim to it in a garage sale for $5.

I thought it would be funny if Brandon ended up with it

Hunker down and stay safe, V11. Might want to consider trading that hamster wheel in towards a General guardian or other standby whole house generator. Mine has paid for itself in the 4 years I've had it. Louisiana, like Florida, is a hurricane magnet.
Btw I'm listening to the Dreadgod audiobook again. Damn, this book is great, and Travis is a legend. Waybound will be bittersweet.

What I'm about to say, I say respectfully as one of Will's biggest fans from the day I read his very first book all those years ago.

Just kill this blog. It's time. It's quite obvious that posting here is just a chore for Will these days. Like a gamer that's sick of an MMO and just logging in to do the daily and log right back off again. He's just waiting for the sub to expire.

The "Progress" bar has been a joke for over a year. Will can't even be bothered anymore to even say what he's working on. I really can't think of any other writers that do that. Most are happy to talk about what they're working on. Will used to be that way but not anymore. The posts here have basically become, "another month has gone by and I have to say something by saying as little as possible". Eleven comments for this month's blog before this one. Eleven. That says it all. For quite a while now it's been obvious that something isn't right.

I strongly suspect that Will no longer much enjoys interaction with his readers here (or anywhere else). He's probably too stressed and anxious to do so. If that's the case, just let it go. If you can't do it right anymore, just let it go.

Have you perhaps considered that he wouldn’t post here if he didn’t want to? If you don’t want to read the posts that’s your decision. Don’t put out your own opinions and say he shares them though.

As the only steel worth listening to I have to concede that you both have salient points and you both should be proud of yourselves.

Hope you made it through the storm okay. I think I live in the same area as you and ended up having my roof collapse in. Would have really benefited from having Dross around to help with the calculus in sorting through that mess.

I was in Orlando a couple weeks ago when "sub-tropical storm Nicole" turned into "Hurricane Nicole." Tucked into the hotel near the airport, three epistemological revelations occurred.

1. Stuck in a hotel during a category one hurricane is not all that bad (until they run out of creamer for the coffee, then it's pitchforks and umbrellas).

2. Though not wearing any hat or shirt from the willwight.com store, I experienced the felicitous inconsistency of another random person in the same hotel excited about the Cradle series (hmm, we should start a CradleCon).

3. Friends, it isn't hyperbole when Will Wight mentions in his bio that he lives among the alligators in Orlando. I saw two alligators sunning themselves on a grassy slope in the warmth of afternoon light Post-Hurricane--in a business district . . . by a body of water . . . by a park bench. Still, I could imagine this is where some inspiration originated for Jai Long. (BY A PARK BENCH!)

Be safe Mr. Wight, and thank you for your books, perilous though it may be to write them in that dangerscape of a city you live in!
