In which we ramble on.
And by we, I mean me.

Of Sales and Shadow!

I'm pretty sure I've made that pun before...

Anyway, Calder's first book--Of Sea and Shadow--is on sale for the next week for only one dollar! If you have friends and family who for some reason haven't read this book yet, make sure to badger them this week! It's only $0.99!

If they don't have a dollar or can't read, though, leave them alone. No need to make them feel worse.

Argh. Really Will? Agonizing suspense, a term you used to aptly describe how you would leave us while we patiently wait for dawn and darkness... So I've been checking the blog pretty much daily and then, finally, huzzah! An update! That doesn't mention a release date.. You're killing me here, time is at a crawl. I must have a date confirmed! "CONFIRMED!"

I've learned my lesson about "confirming" dates. If I say it and then miss it, people go crazy.

But it's coming soon, Ken! Soon!

Badass, thanks Will. We only go crazy because your books are that dam good. I must have read crimson vault 10 times at least waiting for CoL. But the anticipation is half the fun... When it's not to long. I was reading through the blog, are you still planning to release the final pair of elder empire book's before the end of the year?

Probably not, Ken, no. Not because I couldn't finish them before the end of the year, but because I've learned Thanksgiving through New Year's is the worst time to release a book.

Instead, I'll spend that time working on audiobooks, and plan on releasing Books 3 early next year.

Thanks Will, cheers for replying. Thought it seemed a bit soon, but I've seen you work miracles before. I'm not from the states, so thanksgiving doesn't really mean much to me, but it's good to have a reason to look foward to early next year. Also, I've recommended your books to all my mates, so know you have a small following in Rotorua, a small city in New Zealand. Which I'm pretty sure is like the edge of the world. So you're spanning the globe man, keep up the great work. Even if it takes a little longer than you think it will haha.

Everything I know about New Zealand I learned from the Lord of the Rings movies, so I pretty much know nothing. But that's awesome, man! I can't believe there are so many readers out there starving for new fantasy.

Will, with all due respect, this isn't even fair anymore. I'm stuck here reading "subpar litreture" because you are REALLY stretching the consept of " I'll release it in September"

"September" is a flexible concept. By September, I really meant "September-ish."

But I'm almost done! So close! I'm working my fingers to the bone! TO THE BONE!

Help me Obi-Will-Kenobi, you're my only hope!

After Of Darkness and Dawn, I did the next logical thing and went backwards, rereading Of Shadow and Sea. After that I read Of Sea and Shadow. Since I was on a roll, I reread all the House of Blades, and all the short stories. I need new reading material. Please help !!!!

Your dedication astounds, flatters, and frightens me, April.

I'm working as fast as humanly possible on this book, I promise. I actually enjoy blogging, and I would put way more blog posts up if I wasn't assigning that time to writing new books.

As an aside, I've been thinking about writing some kind of simpler long-form story and just releasing, say, a chapter a week. Because it seems like people want regular releases (I know I do) and I'm writing novels basically as fast as I'm capable. There's not really any way for me to speed that up.

So I'm considering writing something that would allow me to at least deliver SOMETHING on a regular basis.

Take your time. I think I am about to start on Way of Kings/Words of Radiance again, so that should buy you some time :)

All the joking aside, I truly don't mind waiting your novels. The release rate really is incredibly quick and they are worth waiting for.

As and aside to your aside, I am not sure how I feel about the chapter a week concept. I think I may prefer having the whole story available at once. (Though I would definitely give it a try if it were offered.)

Would a series of short stories at the rate of 1 or 2 a month until a given set is finished fill a similar niche? Would something like that be more or less work?

Hey, I actually hadn't seen this one! That's pretty cool! And you know I love me some light novels. It reminds me of a mix between Arifureta and the Slime one: http://gurotranslation.blogspot.com/p/ioduction.html

If I could choose to write one subgenre of fantasy in the future, I'd choose to write a light novel. I love them. Minimal description, quick pace, short weekly updates, long character arcs, occasional illustrations...it's fun stuff.

Sir, I just want to say that I await your books with the same if not more anticipation then I awaited books written by Goodkind, Brooks, Jordan and Sanderson. I literally cannot wait for more. There is not a word you have committed to this blog or a book that was not captivating. Keep up the good work and stay true to what you do.

Thanks, James! It's encouraging to take a few minutes off of writing and see that people actually want to read what I'm writing. That keeps me going, it really does.

And I promise I'll deliver the next book as fast as I can!

I like others would like new novels as quickly as possible, but honestly, I like your writing style, the world, story, and characters whether we're talking House of Blades or Elder Empire.

I'd prefer you don't rush and produce a book with the type of quality you're happy with.

In the long run it's the story that matters and not how we got it in days/weeks/months... =)

Well, you know, I've essentially rushed all my books. I'm trying to make sure I release 2-3 books a year, because I know readers prefer regular releases (I certainly do), but as a result I could have spent a lot longer on each book.

As soon as the book is finished and readable, I release it...but only once I feel like it's readable. I do have some minimum standards.

So while I work to hit those standards, thanks for your patience! Everybody's got a great attitude, and that really helps.

Will,
I've been checking every day and although I am sad I am a huge fan and am amazed at the quickness in which you push these stellar story lines out so keep up the great work and if you plan to visit NYC drop a line.
