Of Dawn and Dragoncon

Where have I been since the triumphant release of Darkness, you ask? I suspect you know the answer: I'm hard at work on the companion novel, Of Dawn and Darkness.

It's still slated for release this month, though I'm rushing to make that happen.

Speaking of things that take up time, I'll be at DragonCon in Atlanta this weekend! If you're there too, let me know, and I'll say hi!

I also have a few random Traveler's Gate shirts left, so I'll give you one if I run into you. Or I'll sign a book. Last time I forgot to bring anything, so I just kind of signed my business cards, but I'll do better this year!

Hey Will,
First I want to say I loved your books and will grab up the second installment of your new series soon. However, I was perusing the internet trying to look for a distraction that I could lull myself to sleep watching and I came across this anime called Pandora Hearts. Are you aware of it? The reason i bring it up is because there are characters and elements within that bear a striking resemblance to your work (you know if you ignore the BFS Final Fantasy influences) and other elements of your Valinhall characters as a type. For example Xerxes Break. He's white haired, apparently a little off his rocker, is a master swordsman, a doll he's a bit too attached too, and even has "chains" that are related to his power (power he must use sparingly) and is generally considered the biggest badass while very frustrating to be around due to his silliness. Interesting....

Hey, Liam! Sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment; I've been holed up with Dawn and Darkness.

I've seen Pandora Hearts, but it's been a long time, and I can't say it really had any influence on Valinhall. It had kind of an Alice in Wonderland + Purgatory + Victorian England aesthetic to it, so I can't recall taking any inspiration from there.

Kai's appearance is based on the main character of Mushi-shi, the fairy doctor.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, Paul! I'm working on Dawn and Darkness as hard as I can!

So...ODAD within a month, and Killers and Kings early next year. That's the general timeline.

HI Will. I just finished the first Darkness of Shera's adventure a little while ago. That final quote made me curious, it sounded from the description like how the territories of Travelers Gate where created and how the creatures and "people" in those territories were changed from whatever natural flesh and blood state to the bizarre nature of the territory.

And that final quote the creatures that survive the the void are something like your Elders. A quote of the Unknown Wanderer Considering the similarity of the description to Territories and the comparison of their creatures to Elders, the Title of the person being quoted is this a connection to the Travelers Gate trilogy. Valin the Wanderer,

The Unknown Wanderer Of course how would he have ever visited the world of the Empire? Then again we never learned how he visited Elysian without being a traveler of that place or having one to bring him there or how he found Valinhal for the first time. It would be interesting if Valin really did find a way to visit unknown territories and world somehow..

Plus the similarities between the origins of Elders and territories and their creatures would imply a similar cosmological origin. Thought whether that is a common process of worlds dying or from a specific cause would be interesting to find out. I guess Shera's world was just unlucky to get Elders instead of Territories. Though now I wonder if Travelers count as SoulBound to their Territories? The process seems slightly similar.

My Fan theory, Valin is the Unknown Wanderer of The Elder Empire series.

I so want to read 'Of Dawn and Dragons'. Make it so! I already re-read Of Darkness and Dawn and I can't wait for Of Dawn and Darkness. Or the next Travelers Gate book. Or Of Killers and Kings. Or of Kings and Killers. Or for the voices in my head to be quiet
