New Site Design and A Brief Update!

First of all, the observant among you have already noticed that the site has changed! It's still a work-in-progress, but the current version should run a little better on phones, and my designer is going to try out a few more tweaks in the near future. Send him your energy DBZ-style.

And now for the briefest of updates:

--I just returned from St. Louis, where I taught a brief session at the Realm Makers conference! It's a writer's conference that I knew practically nothing about before I went, which is why I didn't mention it ahead of time; other than the fact that I was going to be there, I knew almost nothing. But I'm pleased to say that I had fun, and hopefully the people who attended my session on The Pitfalls of Self-Publishing (And How to Avoid Them) didn't hate me too much afterwards.

--Speaking of conventions, I will be attending DragonCon in Atlanta again this year! Last year a few fans and I got together and chatted for an hour or two, which I'm more than happy to repeat if any of you are attending the con this year. Specific time and location TBA!

--The covers for all the Elder Empire books are complete, and soon they will be released on the blog and replaced on the ebooks! I'll let you know when that goes live so you know when to beg Amazon for an update.

--I can't think of anything anyone else could possibly want to know from me. Book updates? What are those? I can't hear you, la la la la...

(For real, though, I don't have any release dates for you yet, but I'll let you know when I do! Progress marches steadily onward!)

Some one plug in the Will Wight robot, so he can release "Underlord" this year. Just kidding (not really) it is hard to pester you for new books when you provide so many releases already. Thanks for all you do, and I am patiently (not really) waiting on your next release.

I wish I could go to dragon con but I live halfway across the world so the best I can do is leave a couple of comments hope you enjoy though and btw I read the bloopers (wish I only just discoverd, don't look at me like that I am not very observant) and I found them really nice, oh and I am happy someone found a presence with an attitude.

I don't know. His politeness is a great smoke screen. I'm sure he's more sure of himself. He's gotta be. He's two levels higher, he has a construct that can help him beat an Akira at the edge of underworld. His turtle is fixed. He has an enforcer technique for his pure core. Eithan doesn't even have that, does he? He's becoming every bit the monster people were afraid he'd become.

Eithan does have an enforcer called Hollow armor. But the scene in GW suggests he might even have another one that is yet to be named for the audience.

Lindon' s politeness is part of his personality. Not to say he can't get angry as proved in Blackflame when the idiot lowgold tried to provoke him. He was raised to be humble, it's a habit he's developed to remain aunounimous.

Now he's more confident, yes, but look at when he fought the guy with the bloodshadow at the start of Ghostwater. He prefers not to go with direct combat unless it is a last resort (opposite of Yerin ). AND I think he relates to the weak and powerless.

I have enjoyed your Cradle series. I do have a few questions about the fifth dreadgod that is locked in the labyrinth though.

Also,even though I really dislike relating to other authors works, I found Dross to be extremely similar to Bob from another series I enjoy.

Also are any of you books available or going to be available as audiobooks? I drive a lot and have found that listening to audiobooks enjoyable while driving. As long as the narrator knows how to read and their cadence isn't off.

Will has released audiobooks for the first two books in the Travler’s agate series and is working on the third. He also said recently that he has hired someone to record the Crade books for him. He has mentioned nothing about Elder Empire that I can recall. It hasn’t been as successful as his other stuff so the cost might not be justified.

I think part of the idea is that it's proof that you actually write your books, rather than hiring out the writing to a Indonesian writer sweatshop or something.

Or maybe it just gives fans the chance to criticize your typing speed. IDK.

Will, I have one request:
Please include a night mode for the site. I might've been spoiled by RRL and TvTropes, but they've shown me that it's possible to read a site for extended amounts of time in the middle of the night without having my eyes melt out.

As much as I enjoy all of Will’s work, I’m of the opinion that Cradle is the best and should be the sole project he works on. I am probably part of a small minority who agrees. I have read and enjoy all the other books. Just my honest opinion. Cradle is a breath of fresh air in modern fantasy, and I enjoy it wholeheartedly. Happy for all the people patiently waiting for the next Elder Empire release, and the fact that you guys are next, but I want Underlord and I want it yesterday lol. Keep up the great work Will, you deserve all the good fortune that’s come your way and everything still to come!

I get why you feel that way, and there could be tonnes of side stories, or progress Will could make....

* the Romantic and Heroic Adventures of Servent One-Thirteen.
* the Strongest Sandviper Warlord (starring that kid that took two whole drops of venom)
* the literary equivalent of a family sitcom starring Cassius, his wife, his father and in-laws as the suffering Patriarch of the Empire’s janitorial bureaucracy, with Eithan as quirky comedy relief.

And of course the three that we know will definitely happen:
* after taking the rejuvenation elixir - Gesha gets her Groove Back
* Overlord Orthos
* and the harem comedy of Lindon, Yerin, Mercy, Jai Chen, Suriel and Little Blue (yeah, I went there).

But I also love Traveller, even if the best part is.... I mean, how can you not love a crazy guy and his dedicated dolls?

Plus, writers have other ideas they need to get out. They have times where they get blocked and can’t write what they want to, how they want, and need a “palate cleanser”. Sometimes what they love writing at the moment isn’t what their writers love reading.

Lots of things. So... let’s not pressure the guy giving us the goods?

I mean, apart from that Gesha story, because damn girl, she gonna get her freak on.

Why doesn’t lindon make agreements with more remnants like he did with the wasps, or even use the crystal flasks like he did with the ancient orus tree, since it seemed to be his go-to method for anything before he could generate more madra, and now that he can it’s like he forgot what his favorite trick was for pretty much his entire life.

And I highly recommend the Eli Monpress stories by Rachel Aaron, who is a brilliant writer. It features a slightly similar magic system of spirits, and a conman theif who is incredibly powerful in the world because... they’re magic spirits and he’s a conman. It’s fun and hilarious.

Goes totally different to Will’s stories, but might be good while waiting for Underlord.

He still is. He has his remnant arm and Dross is quite a step up from the hornets. Plus he has Orthos and Lil Blue. These higher level opponents aren't going to be affected by the little tricks he used when unsouled.

My daughter and I will be at DragonCon this year. Would it be ok to bring a book and ask you to sign? There are a few other authors I'm going to bring books to ask for signatures, but while I have physical copy of the first Travelers Gate, I'll have to order a copy of Unsouled to bring. But if you're just going to hang out and talk informally, I won't bother you during that time.

I would absolutely love a 'Lindon's Inventory' section at the end of the books just to know what exactly he has with him by the end of each story. This would be an excellent cheat sheet for Will as well I would think.

So...

I'm a little confused by a statement in Ghostwater from The Beast King to Ziel on helping Yerin and Mercy:

The Beast King leaned closer to Ziel, ignoring the dogs. “Since you seem so willing to help others, I have something to occupy your time. I put a couple of Golds on a task for me, and they seem to have gotten themselves stuck. How about you swing by and un-stick them.” --Wight, Will. When did the Beast King put them on a task?

Haha I think it's better to think of anyone Archlord up as a behind the scenes kind of guy. Yerin and Mercy could be doing exactly what he wants without them even knowing. The fact he's helping Yerin and Mercy and that Ziel was helping Lindon is also very likely not a coincidence.

Gotcha, just seems like if that's the case then something would have been alluded to earlier during, or after, the meeting with Old Man Lo and the Sage of Silver Heart, and Mercy and Yerin. Seems like Yerin and Mercy were on their mission across the Island from help from the Sage of Silver Heart, not from the Beast King. If the Best King was involved with them that closely, if even indirectly, then doesn't that also means there'd have to be some type of working alliance with Akura family? I know that's mentioned a little in relation to their find against the Dragons, but still seems a bit strange for a statement like "I put a couple of Golds on a task for me," which implies direct involvement.
