Last week, my mother was cleaning out the house where I grew up, and she found this: ...in the fourth grade, we had to make a fake magazine for a school project. I created this masterpiece, a laminated edition of Time from the distant future year of 2019. The cover story is my creation of a genetically engineered hybrid between dog and rabbit, which is clearly a huge breakthrough in genetic science. In this article, I make sure to reassure the reader that this mutant creature is very safe and will not break out and harm anyone. As would be any person’s reasonable fear. I stand by this prediction of the future, which means I must learn a lot about genetic engineering in the next couple of months. -Will

What're the odds you post the text of this project as another blog post?

This is great! I teach 5th grade and am very interested in reading the whole "magazine"! I might have to do something like this very soon!

I don't know mutants have a habit of breaking out of containment and wreaking havoc on the world.

A Doggit? Rabbog? I feel Doggit would fit a cross with smaller breed dogs where as Rabbog would be for say a cross with a Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound.

I like Dhare. Really rolls off the tongue and probably rhymes with the origin of this abomination.

I've never genetically engineered an animal before. How about a plant with some tiny dog & rabbit markers?
