Movie Requests

3/28/2019

The last post has way too many comments, so we need a new blog, but I've been so busy that I don't have a whole lot to say.

That sounds contradictory, but it's true.

I was going to do a quick review of Us, but that's not really a whole blog post so much as two lines: "All the acting, directing, and dialogue are excellent, but the rules of the world are vague, confusing, and contradictory. B+/A- depending on the degree to which world-class acting and writing can make you forget that what's happening doesn't make a whole lot of sense."

So in that case, I turn to you! What movie (or game) would you like me to review next time I don't have any news for the blog?

I'll review basically anything except books. I don't want to use this space to pick on other authors, so the only time I'll review a book is if I think it's fantastic. But I don't mind tearing apart movies or games...or praising them if they're awesome.

Anyway, tell me in the comments which filler content you'd like to see! Go!

And, of course, real news will be the priority if there is any to share.

-Will

Okay, I know that this is not the place for this comment, but I needed a new post, and I can't wait any longer. so just a few questions.

1: Eithan. he seems to be way to powerful, and way to mysterious. how did no one know that he was using pure madra? the only way would for people to never have seen him use a teqnique, and that just seems to unlikely. also, how did he manage to break into a prison meant to contain overlords? people have theorized that he is veiling himself, but surely that would be seen through by sages and monarchs, which would be at the uncrowned tournament.

2: Sacred Valley. 1, what is elder whipser doing there? he is truegold level, and nobody else there is higher than jade. also, how is he imprisoned, and why? also, how do we know he's truegold, and why doesn't he teach everyone else how to be an actually good sacred artist? moving on from elder whisper, some things there seem to be disproportionately powerful. the underlord that lindon fought(I forgot his name) didn't even leave a smart enough remnant to attack lindon, and that was an underlord. yet, a wasp remnant in sv was powerful enough to talk? I'm skeptical. also, how did jades manage to summon a sage level being with additional magical powers outside of cradle?

3: shia maria, queen of the ninecloud cort. she is 9 or ten, but she is a monarch? I feel like there was a reason somewhere, but I can't explain it.

4: paths. after browsing through abidan archives, you talk about paths like your looking at something that was already created, rather than making them up on the spot. if that's true, is there a way for me to look at them, rather than spending all of my time on reddit and abidan archives searching up paths?

5: sword sage. I know you won't answer this, sense its obviously a spiler, but I just get more and more confused about how he died whenver I think about it. a enforcer teqnique would have made his body impervious to harm, at least by jades, and a single endless sword would have sliced them all to bits. people have said that heavens glory had posion from labryinth, but if they went deep enough inside to get something powerful enough to kill a sage, then why don't they rule all of sv?

6: what comments on this post are actually for. I would like to see a review of either World of Warcraft or Ark survival. preferably the former.

1 more question, once again unrelated to the post. what path is the easiest to advance on? that is, one that doesn't rely on mass murdering people.

Reply
Sword Immortal Darknorth

I'm not Will, but I've been part of the community since shortly after the publication of Unsouled, so I might be able to answer some of these questions.

1. Eithan can locate stuff easily with his bloodline power, and basically nothing is safe from him (on the scale of the measures the Blackflame Empire can implement). In Underlord, he was able to obtain the archstone, which even the Emperor had to obtain 3 keys to use. Presumably, he just found the formation keys for the prison and used those to get inside.

2. Sacred Valley is special, as is Elder Whisper. We won't learn more until later.

3. Sha Miara is currently a bit younger than Yerin and Lindon. Will said she was younger than 15 prior to Ghostwater, so that's a good approximation 2 books and half a year later. She looks and acts even younger than she is though, presumably because she has such a high advancement level that she ages slower. She reached her level by inheriting power from a legacy that stretches back to the beginning of Cradle, and on top of that she's been given the very best training and resources that the 9-Cloud court can provide.

4. I'm not sure about this one, but Will says he is able to make up paths as he needs them. Presumably, he does this while outlining so he needs to amend his notes so the path fits with his worldbuilding, otherwise the path might conflict with other worldbuilding info. That might explain why Will usually looks for paths in his notes instead of making them up on the spot.

5. There are lots and lots of theories on this over at r/iteration110cradle

6. Pass

7. It probably depends on how far you want the path to take you and what resources you have. If you're living in a hut in the mountains, a standard earth path would be you best choice, since you're surrounded by earth vital aura to cycle. A simple earth path would probably be easiest to advance, but such a path might not take you past lowgold. If you want to make it to sage or monarch, you'd need to improve your path or move onto a stronger path with the same madra requirements.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

1.eithan is currently under lord in madra

He might have fallen a few level
He might have direct teaching of his monarch

But the most important aspect is his bloodline power
He literally never used any techniques in front of people just used the force of his soul to intimidate people
This just gives force without any madra flavor
Whenever he fights he avoids the attacks and doesn't make any madra attack instead using his scissors to attack.
Him going to the prison was likely due to him having ward key of said prison or knowledge of its weakness
Even fort Knox has a key.

2. The Wei clan was a very famous clan once before a great calamity(most likely when the 4 dreadgods came together as one and destroyed the blacklame empire of the dragons or even before that ,they might even be the remains of the civilization that created the labyrinth and got destroyed by dreadgods)
He is not imprisoned but was bound by a contract by the main family as a line of last defence most likely and might have been the highest level that could have been allowed in the valley as shown by jai long and or this.
Sacred beast do not advance as humans do so if he was bound young or just didn't know about human ways he couldn't help anyone advance.
The wasp was a sacred beast remnant & the remnant of sacred beast differ from that of humans
Also it was not that intelligent and was an old remnant which made a basic contract.
Kirpa remnant was a new born by comparison.
3.as suriel said
Sha misra inherited her power , for all we know she could have been born a monarch.
Since she is a monarch from a young age she ages slow but no one says no to her and they fulfill her ever demand so it's obvious that she's spoiled and childlike.
4. While he does makes it up he obviously has a blueprint or basic framework on how a path should be or else it would all contradict each other.
5. Regarding the sage
I have been the most vocal about this since soulsmith came out and we found what level a sage was.
This is what I have been able to gather so far
It was deliberately done by Will
It was pre planed from the start by Will

And there are specific reasons for this which will be explained in future.

No enforcement teqnique makes u fully impervious it only raise ur defence
He was poisoned in sleep so no time for endless sword teq , might even have been poisons from afar.

Also the Nethergate ,as the entrance to labyrinth is called in the valley opens periodically and for a shorttime only and there may be traps and other dangers inside so the school is only able to take out things of certain level that too at risk
Also they do unofficially rule the valley due to this .

Also teri thought the sage was asleep
He might have been advancing or preparing to ascend and due to which had lowered his guard and was hence possible to even poison him

It is possible as a well placed whisper can fell an empire so too can a few lousy Jade's kill a gold

Also I think the school has gold of their own and they do not know how to weave soulfire and become lord so they keep the knowledge about gold secret

7.that depends on what u mean by easiest
Do u mean least effort
Least time or
Least resources.

There was a body teq in ED wuxia which made u immortal in the trust sense and the only way to advance on it was to sleep but for eons and only one person in history managed that rest failed.

In time the fastest would be inheritence path
In resources would be contract with sacred beast path.
In resources it would be a single aura path

My auto correct is way too erratic on this site

Kiro becomes ki to

Also last para
Least time+effort . Inherited
Least time. Sacred beast contact
Least resources .Single aura path

@Avinash

1 Good point

2 aside from the seal, where does it say wei clan is special?

3 that makes sense

4 see previous

5 sage doesnt need enforcer teqniques- has steelborn iron body. while meant for strength, does also have defensive features. also remember that body is reforged in soulfire after underlord. for endless sword, it doesn't take a while to muster, especally weak one, and he did kill some, so he had some chance to fight back. for labyrinth thing, heavens glory doesn't directly have acces to it. cant remember which, but one other school is the only one with direct acces. good point about advancent though.

7. quickest without relying on expensive pills and elixirs.

Avinash
3/31/2019 04:06:42 pm

@cool person

2.wei clan was mentioned as one of the great clans in unsoiled
Also markuth who himself was a sage was a rival to Wei family's patriarch
Remember how he said the line about sins of the father being inherited by the sons.

He had to run away instead of killing him
So the Wei patriarch was a herald and possibly a monarch even

5.the sage himself said the body increases with advancement
That being said I reiterate my point the body was strong but the poison might have been in food or air.
And the endless sword has a range
So if during the sleep poisoning he was unaware or out of range he couldn't use it.
He only killed a few of those who came to physically kill him later, but by the point the poison would have already been in his system.

The netgergate situation is most likely like ghost water
I.e. on opening the strongest groups enter together , since whisper had also been inside once.
7.inheritence or mutation path

We may have a clue in Underlord as to how the Jades took down the Sage. When the Blackflame attacked into the Night Wheel Valley, they ran into a spell formation that made them all dopey. It even affected the Emperor, and he's an Overlord. I don't think it was specified that the spell formation was powered by the Seishen king (also an Overlord), so if it wasn't a Lord-level effect, and given that Sacred Valley specializes in Dream madra, something similar might've been done to the Sage.

I tried posting this earlier, and it didn't appear. Guess I'll try once more under a different e-mail address.

I suspect Underlord has given us a clue as to how the Sage might've been overwhelmed. When the Blackflames re-entered Night Wheel Valley they ran into a spell formation that made them all dopey, including the Emperor. The text doesn't indicate (AFAIK) that the effect was created by the Seishen King (also an Overlord). If Heaven's Gate had a similar spell formation available, that might have impaired the Sage enough to allow them to overwhelm him. Sword Paths might also not have a lot of defenses against dream-aura-based attacks, which is a big thing in Sacred Valley.

Given what jerks they were, it wouldn't surprise me if they had such a formation explicitly for the purpose to subduing, killing, and robbing any outsiders who wandered into their clutches.

Reply
Avinash
4/1/2019 03:52:41 am

That only works if ur level is near
That formation was lord level that means it needs lord level binding/madra to work
The sacred valley has gold at highest level so it won't work
It's possible for poison cause you don't need any input for poison.
Think it this way a child can't fire a bow and arrow of a gun
But he could push the button to launch a nuclear missile.

Will, I agree! Extending your critique, I'm very curious to know what you think of authors like Neil Gaiman. His worlds almost never have rules laid out, and at times the rules may even be/seem contradictory, and they certainly can be confusing (I can come up with some specific examples if you want), but I guess it never seems like the absence or bending/breaking of rules are breaking the internal logic of the story, if that makes any sense. Do you agree with that/is that a differentiation you like to make? Oh, and not asking for a review of any of his books, just curious.

This is what I want to hear—The Will-verse Podcast in which you creatively and amusingly use your characters to review movies.

Normal movie reviews are rather run-of-the-mill, but reviewing a movie through your characters is too much fun, too doable, too much a brilliant promotion idea to pass on. It taps your genius, your creative energy, your wit… all while reviewing a movie and indirectly, and directly, promoting your books. The audio takes the review to the next level. It’s perfect! Just imagine the character banter, the snide comments, some talk about a movie, the overwhelming fan reaction as they forward it to friends and enemies alike . . .
