In which we ramble on.
And by we, I mean me.

I Have Returned, More Powerful than Ever!

Hey, I'm back!

Also, while I was gone, we crossed the 8,000 sales threshold! Woo-hoo! At this rate, we'll hit 9,001 copies sold in less than a week, and then I can make an OVER NINE THOUSAND joke. My sickly heart craves outdated memes.

At this point, I estimate that I'm about 1/3 of the way done with The Crimson Vault, and I'm still working like a fiend trying to get it out for August 10th. I really want that to happen, because August 11th is my birthday, and then I can spend my birthday doing everyone's favorite post-book-launch birthday activity: sleeping. And, ideally, playing Cube World. Simultaneously.

Now that I have returned to the civilized world of Wi-Fi and 4G phone service, I will be investing my precious writing time into responding to your comments and emails. Look forward to my correspondence, friends and allies!

As always, thanks for your support! I channel your positive energy and feast upon it, swelling my writerly powers. Soon I will shed my mortal shell like a chrysalis, and ascend to a higher plane of existence.

No? Too weird? All right, I'll take it down a notch.

Here's a similar question to last week's: what was the most recent movie you've seen that was surprisingly good? I liked the Lone Ranger reboot (not counting the Tonto/Little Kid frame story, which needed to be edited out), which surprised me, because I expected it to suck.

Anyway, how about you?

After your comment about Lone Ranger, I'm not sure I can respond. I guess that's why you said "surprising," but the previews made it look like Pirates of the Caribbean, western remake. For me . . . This is the End. I wasn't necessarily surprised it was funny, but I was surprised by how hilarious and entertaining it was. Although the shock value approach means that I may never see it again, it was the funniest movie I've seen in a while.

You know, that's funny, I still haven't gotten around to seeing This is the End. But if it's that hilarious, I need to check it out.

As for Lone Ranger, I think it comes down to the expectations I had when I went into the theater. I expected it to be a much worse movie, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Except for those stupid scenes with Johnny Depp and the little kid that never panned out and added nothing to the story. Just cut out the frame story, people. I beg you.

I just read your book and was surprised on how good the story was.I am excited for the sequel. I love the idea of travelers. You Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

Do you do you own editing?

I'm surprised that you believe it is still possible to release the book by Aug. 10, less than 4 weeks from the date of this blog post, and you are only 1/3 done. That is why I started wondering about whether that estimate includes time for editing.

I believe a lot of things, John.

And I promise, if I think the book needs more editing before it should be released, I'll push the book back a couple of weeks. I'll do what I have to.

No need to be defensive. I was only curious. If you do not want to answer whether you do your own editing, you could have just said so.

Hey John,

I'm sorry about that, I didn't mean to come across defensive or evasive. I was just trying to respond with a bit of dry humor, but obviously that didn't work. Seriously, I apologize if you felt slighted or offended.

To answer your editing question: I do edit my own work, but I am far from the only one. That's the only reason why it's still possible for me to make the August 10th deadline; if I was editing by myself, there would be no way.

Okay, thanks for answering. And no, I was not offended by anything you wrote.

I'm glad to hear that you have help. Well, I guess I am glad. :-) It would have also been impressive if you actually were capable of single handedly finishing writing, editing, and self-publishing a book in less than a month. But that does not sound healthy, since I guess it would require lack of sleep, food, etc. to accomplish!

Anyway, I am looking forward to reading your next book, whenever it is released!

To sound like a total geek (which I probably am), I just saw Despicable Me 2 (in my defense, I had my 3 year old with me), and it was hilarious!! Seriously stoked about book #2! I hope you get it done! Today happens to be my birthday, and I received amazon gift cards...some of which will hopefully go to buying your book once it comes out (if I haven't used it all up beforehand!).

I liked Despicable Me 2, but I didn't think it was as good as the original. The minions were still hilarious.

And happy birthday!

Anthony, you have discovered my secret goal: to distract people when they should be sleeping or working.

My diabolical plan is almost complete.

Will! You should post blog updates bi-weekly! I know it takes milliseconds to transmit your feels across the internets and those are milliseconds we could have the Crimson Vault sooner, but I like when you take us through your developmental process every now and then and give us the state of the union.

Keep up the good work (and by good work I mean skipping out on MetroCon).

So first you tell me that I should do more work, and then you mock me when I refuse to skip work and go to a con with you. I defy you, Lord of Chaos and Paradox!

What is your plan, Julius? Huh? Would you destroy me? Would you seek my death, my insanity, my utter destruction?

I SEE YOUR MIND! YOU WOULD TAKE THE RING TO SAURON! YOU WOULD BETRAY US ALL! CURSE YOU! CURSE YOU, AND ALL HALFLINGS!

Just wanted to say thank you for writing the House of Blades book, really loved it! As for when the sequal comes out, i can wait as long as it takes so that it is written to your satisfaction. So no rush. Thank you for all the work you put into this and please keep up the awesome work

Pacific Rim! You have to see that movie! Does it suffer from a bit of poor characterization and a lack of great acting? Maybe....but it's got giant robots punching giant monsters in the face!! I'm not sure why exactly but I loved it.

Excited for The Crimson Vault! So much so that I wrote this haiku:
This new book of yours
makes me happy in my pants.
Hurry and write it.

Man, I saw Pacific Rim, and I just...I should not have believed the hype.

Were the giant robots awesome? Yes. Did I enjoy seeing them beat the crap out of interdimensional aliens? Absolutely. But the movie didn't make any sense! I cringed every time one of the humans opened their mouth, and I sort of wanted them all to die.

That's me, though. I also hated James Cameron's Avatar, for similar reasons.

Your haiku is inspiring, and I will have it printed on a poster with a background of bamboo and drifting cherry blossoms.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed them, and I too think it would be awesome to see the book as a movie.

Not that it's particularly likely, but it would sure be cool.

Just saw Oblivion, which I thought was very good. The last movie I saw in theaters was Star Trek: Into Darkness, which I also enjoyed.

I loved Star Trek II, but I didn't see Oblivion. I wanted to, it was just that there were so many movies coming out around that time that I didn't have the time or the money.

Hello Will,
I've simply come to say that The House of Blades is now in my top books. Its a very unique concept and you executed it perfectly. In my opinion you have the potential to become one of the best authors best authors.

Just finished House of Blades. Excellent story, well written!

The most surprisingly good movie I have seen recently (the surprise is due to the fact that not a lot of Matthew McConaughey movies impress me all that much) was Mud. Very much worth seeing, though somewhat slow-paced compared to your story.
