Dreadgod Release: July 5th!

6/6/2022

Many of you already know this, but since I didn't blog Friday night, here it is: Cradle #11, Dreadgod, is coming out in all formats on July 5th!

I told you I was making progress.

Practically speaking, it's exactly the same length as Reaper. Technically, it's longer. You'll see.

Pre-order begins June 21st! You know how it works by now; paperbacks can't be pre-ordered, but ebooks and audio will be up for pre-order in a couple weeks.

And as I announced last week, the Traveler's Gate Trilogy is back on Audible, re-recorded by Travis Baldree! It's on Audible Plus for six months, yadda yadda, all the things I said last time.

Now that business is out of the way, back to what you're here for: Dreadgod.

People always ask me how I feel about the upcoming book, and the answer is always "TERRIFIED," because my heart is weak and full of never-ending anxiety. However, there's some cool stuff coming up in Cradle that I'm excited for you to enjoy.

Of course, I can't talk about those things because they'd be spoilers.

So here are some meaningless facts about Dreadgod:
--23 chapters.
--9 bloopers.
--The word "Dross" is used 443 times.
--The word "neglect" is used 1 time.

...and in a second, I'll share with you the title of Chapter 1.

As you're already aware, chapters in Cradle don't have titles, but if Chapter 1 of Dreadgod did have a title, this is what it would be.

I won't tell you exactly what happens, just what the chapter would be called, but if you really really want no spoilers then SPOILER ALERT for Chapter 1 of Dreadgod...

Clearly, this means that Ozriel is disbanding the trailers and joining the ghosts. Much to the frustration of everyone, especially the ghosts.

There will be no more movie trailers ever again, Ozriel is getting rid of them.

Can't respond to your comment. Will confirmed that Lindon did not drain Ozriel. Ozriel's armor protected him from London's drain.

Is Lindon going to talk to Eithan's (Ozmanthus') labyrinth copy? The same one they faced in Reaper? Could Eithan have given it more information or let it absorb some from him?

I assure you, if you do not take steps in this long awaited book to restore Dross to something resembling his resplendent best there will be RIOTS.
We shall defend our DROSS, whatever the cost may be, we shall RIOT on the beaches, we shall RIOT on the landing grounds, we shall RIOT in the fields and in the streets, we shall RIOT in the hills; we shall never STOP RIOTING.

The read more button exists when looking at the blog page itself, not when looking at this specific post. The blog page version of the post cuts off the chapter title and the -Will signature, but unfortunately there is nothing new beyond the title itself.

Akura Malice’s eyes burned with the rage that warred with humiliation and fear as a will greater than her own flattened her to the ground. Sweat dripped down her face as she attempted to push herself off the ground to no avail. Dross grinned fiendishly at her prone figure beneath him. “So…;” he asked her. “How do YOU like it?!”

Will, I want you to know that your books have been the only thing keeping me going these last few weeks, and that your Cradle series is one of my top book series of all time, rivaled only by the Inheritance cycle. Great work on the books so far, I’m looking forward to hearing Travis’ wonderful voice reading your book to me

Wow, just wow. Will, you are talented beyond words!
I sincerely appreciate the speed at which you satisfy my insatiable hunger for your writing. I feed the void by rereading Cradle over and over and over (goes down so good :D) My dad has read the series twice himself, and now we both find other authors a bit dross.
Thank you for creating a story and characters I cherish! I can’t wait to see where you go from here!

Will,

I’m just a fan so I have no right to ask this of you. But I’ll ask it anyways :)
Please don’t pull a game of thrones TV series (series was great last two seasons were… bad like really bad).
This series has become my favorite fantasy book! I love the characters, the world, the dialogue, and I especially love the story! I believe the rumors are only 12 cradle books? (I hope that’s wrong and we get a never ending supply of books as long as the way remains free from chaos). True or not please don’t make an amazing story/world (like you have already done, bravo) then the last two books decide you don’t want to do it anymore and wrap it up with so many unanswered questions and leaving the readers with an empty feeling.

That’s it, it’s my only ask really. And I only ask it because I have no clue how you would wrap this up in only two books! Which is why I’m gonna buy your books to see how you do. But the end of reaper felt like a good middle of the series IMO.

Thanks,

A happy fan!

Be careful of wishing for a never ending series. Its better to have a well crafted and outline series plot come to an end then to keep it on life support with meaningless filler.

And to just say 'well just make them all good' is easier said then done.

Dreadgod

Madeline
6/11/2022 04:16:05 pm

I'd personally prefer another series later that answers some of the unanswered questions by taking on the point of view of a minor character who doesn't ascend and remained on Cradle. Like one of the Sacred Valley inhabitants (I would personally like to see at least one story exploring the dynamic of Wei Mon Teris and his daughter escaping Sacred Valley into a world where she has the potential to become a genius, at least compared to him, because she wasn't taught bad habits growing up, and whether this leads him to regret what he did to Lindon when they were children. It would also be interesting to see what happened to Yan Shumei after Wintersteel. She had a city depending on her!

CB
6/7/2022 05:39:05 pm

In other news, Lindon only apologizes 2x in Dreadgod. One is sarcastically to Reigan Shen as he drains him.

So, for Bloodline we get a chapter. For Reaper we get an audiobook sample. Now for Dreadgod we get a single phrase describing a chapter. Way to tease us, Will.

How many times is the word "whirlpool" used?
Also, why is "whirlpool" used in every Elder Empire novel and, I think, in every Cradle novel, but not in the Traveler's Gate trilogy?
Is it a joke that I missed or am I just weird for fixating on the word "whirlpool?"

Wintersteel, the longest book in the series to date, only contained the word “Dross” 294 times.

So a lot more Dross discussion.

Ok ok so I've been listening to Reaper on repeat with the others intermingled and I got questions...

1. Why did Fury have to ascend the balance was down by 2 monarchs by the end of bloodline. They were Monarch Aurelias and the Dragon Monarch.

2. Sage of a thousand eyes... How could she not know that eithan wasn't who he said he was?

3. Can Mercy become a monarch and not ascend... If Malice's visions of fate are to be believed? If Malice is so resolute about not leaving Cradle... Does she die or lose her cultivation? If she dies by Lindon's hand, how can the group stay together?

I love this series, cannot wait for book 12. I would keep reading these for as long as you write them, but do understand why it has to end. I've laughed out loud and become tearfull many times in this series. Not many books tug at my emotions as much as yours do. I read every day 3-4 hours, so I've read a few books. Thank you for this series.
