I actually bought House of Blades the first month it came out, and I remember thinking "What have I done? I just started the first book in a series by some no name random author. It's probably going to suck and even it it's any good this 'Will Wight' guy will probably disappear long before writing the final book in the series. Best case scenario and the sequel comes out in four years."

It's a good question, and I'll copy the answer I used in a reddit thread:

It’s going to be a few more months. Because of the complexity of the project, and because I’ve been trying some new processes to make my writing more efficient, I don’t know if that means more like 3 months or more like 6 months.

I realized a couple of months ago that at the current rate, it was likely to be a whole year since Ghostwater by the time OKAK came out, and that’s a big gap in releases. I have assistants to pay now. So I wrote Underlord, because I basically knew how long that would take to do and that I could use it to cover the long gap between releases.

I was reluctant to do that, though. I’d like to finish OKAK, both to get it off my plate and because I want to write the ending as much as its fans want to read the ending.

I only check in occasionally, so I'm not sure when OKAK got replaced with another Cradle book (or at least, Underlord snuck in first), but I'm super happy to hear it. Cradle is definitely my favorite of your series.

If you go on to Wills Facebook page Travis (narrator) says he will give us the first chapter but instead he rips out our hearts mercilessly. All we get is a video of him in a squid had.So I ask both Will and Travis: WHY. Why must you be so cruel to your desperate fans? I'm just going to sit in a corner and cry myself to sleep over and over until March finally comes. Then I will read Underlord and take Will hostage so that he may write Cradle books for me until the end of time *cackles evilly*.

If you pre order a book, you will be notified the INSTANT it becomes downloadable and readable. Which isn't always the same thing as midnight on the day it was released, I spent about half an hour growling at Amazon tech support until Words of Radiance finally appeared on my Kindle.

I have kindle unlimited, I still pre-ordered Underlord. I use my unlimited account to find new authors that I might enjoy. I've enjoyed all of Will's books so I make sure I purchase them all to better support an author I enjoy. If he had to get a second job, the books would come out slower!

You know they always say never judge a book by its cover.
But what else are u supposed to judge it by??
I mean if eyes are out that leaves touch taste and smell , that isn't any help either .
I remember looking up house of blades quite a few times and not starting it cause and I hate to say it the cover looked bland and generic but I liked the synopsis , so I must have changed my mind several times and finally read it on a friends Kindle.
So am happy now that even the covers have become eye-catching.
Sorry for the rant.

If it helps a little, it's the second-longest in the series so far (next to Blackflame)! It's about 13% longer than Ghostwater.

It will still be finished in a single session and it will still feel too short , but hey that's the mark of an interesting read.

FANTASTIC! I have preordered my copy of Underlord already. Having enjoyed the Skysworn audiobook (mr travis baldree doing a fine job, thank you very much) I wonder if he is hard at work on Ghostwater yet?

I found it curious that only Blackflame continues to be unavailable on whispersync for kindle - but I hope that with time it will be made available for purchase.

I have great hopes for Underlord...thanks for continuing this entertaining series!

I love pre-orders! Why? Because now I have the book safely locked into the Kindle delivery system and if I for some reason don't make it back to the authors website for however long...I still get a surprise one Tuesday evening after midnight! Hip Hip Hooray!

There are few things worse (in proportion that is) in a day than to go to the website of an author your rather and enjoy and *BAM* WTF!! What do you mean the book has been out for two months!!!

So while I don't often read the forums for my favorite authors and only post once in a while, being able to pre-order is awesome!

Don't listen!!! Don't do it! That's one of my biggest beefs with Brandon Sanderson these days; he keeps getting distracted with new writing ideas that, while enjoyable, continuously diminish our chances of ever finishing the series he already started. At his current pace, words of Radiance (all 10 books) won't be finished for something like 30 years, and that's IF he sticks it out

This is left a bit vague, but it depends on a host of factors from my perspective. It seems like Sages age super slowly, while Heralds are ageless alongside Monarchs. On the other had it seems to depend on the life aura in your body, going up a stage naturally strengthens that life aura. There are other ways to augment your life aura like elixers such as the one Lindon and Orthos used.

Once you're past your prime you reverse age once you strengthen your life aura such as how Orthos re-youthenized. This, in my opinion, is what would have happened to Jai Daishou (did I get that right?) had he advanced a stage.

From what I gather
1. The greater ur cultivation level the greater is ur life span or life aura if u will .
Suppose hypothetically a gold lives for 200 yr so at 180 he's near dead.
But on advancing to lord he gets a lifespan of 1000, now his 180 years are nothing he's a teenager in terms of age and vitality.
2. Orthos was a special case as he drank a .Unique/rare elixer which recharged him kind of like he was at 10% battery and now he's at 80% his overall life expectancy value is same but it got reset.
3. Jai daishou used an artifact to escape death and that's all it did not increase his level or life aura , he will still die in a year or so as before.(based on what was written till now)

I think you misunderstood what I meant, I mean Jai Daishou would have undergone a similar transformation to Orthos reverse aging.
I think at any given stage, be It Copper- Archlord. There are hard limits to how far you can stretch your life span via elixers. Jai Daishou had likely stretched his lifespan as far as he could seeing as he was vastly rich and still dying. What prevented him from buying life reversing elixers? The answer is nothing, he likely just stretched and stretched his life aura till he was at a limit.

Regarding daishou
Yeah ur correct but would depend on the slider.
Jai daishou may have utilised all elixer within his reach but the life water was a monarchs treasure and even a monarchs garbage was treasure for heralds let alone a lowly underlord from a backwater empire.
So the effect would depend on slider in question
If it was potent enough he might reverse age.
But I think on advanceing a level he would remain the same age but his final age would increase and his aging rate slow.
And at certain level herald or sage he might be able to control his apparent age freely

One question I can't stop thinking about it since reading Ghost Water for the 3rd time. Since Lindon has two cores advancing to Underlord, and it was stated by Harmony in Ghost Water that advancement to Underlord required a spark of Soulfire to reforge the body and soul. Would Lindon need a spark for both cores and therefore forge himself to a higher degree than the average Underlord or would it act the same way as advancing to iron where multiple advancements don't stack. In black flame during the battle between the Jai Underlord and Ethan, it was said that Ethan forged his broom to a level the Jai Underlord couldn't imagine because of the amount of Soulfire and power Ethan was channelling into it. That makes me think that the more Soulfire used to advance the stronger the out come.

I would love to here everyone else thought on this before we possibly find out after the release.

As I imagine it, the soul (with its soulfire and soule space) is different from the core. You can combine soulfire with the spirit power but it can be used on itself... but that is just my imagination.
So Lindon will gain just one place above bellybutton with the soulfire as everybody else, unless he will split it too :-)

But again, that is just my imagination.

And Ethan once told, that thanks to his bloodline power, he can easily found sources of soulefire, so he can weaved easily and quickly more soulfire for himself.

But I was talking about the act of advancing to Underlord and how the amount of Soulfire used in the forging of a new body and soul for Underlord or (multiple forging as could be the case with Lindon) could effect their power.

My gut feeling is to say "of course having more soul fire is going to lead to a better advancement". Just as having a larger, purer, and more condensed core leads to a more solid advancement from copper through to Truegold. However, the truth of the matter is, even though we have the knowledge of what to do for 2 of the 3 phases you must go through to reach Underlord; we have no idea how those process's actually work. We don't know how you open a soul space or how you weave soulfire, or even what the third phase entails beyond a new body and soul being "forged". Sadly there is so little information it is hard for me to even give speculation beyond, "the more you have of something (soulfire in this case) and the purer it is generally means stronger advancement in wuxia."

See it's not exactly the amt of soul flame available , but rather the amt the newly advanced true gold's (now underlord) body can bear in the weaving/refining of the body.
Similar to how Orthos could raise Lindon to true gold immediately but his body would explode long before.
So a large amt of soul fire may end up burning Lindon instead.

Think the difference as in melting and evaporation.
Or the difference in removing impurities from metal instead & damaging it.

Ethan used a ridiculous amt of soulfire on the broom as he said he believes in making instead of storing soul fire. Most likely due to his heavenly wheel technique , like a sheet of paper may tear due to a pen but a book won't.
Now coming to advancment
Firstly as per our current available info he becomes an underlord as soon as u have a spark of soul fire
A spark by nature is the the origin.
So it suggest it's the tipping point and unlikely something that u could suppress to make more soul fire.
Secondly ,as I said in another comment even if he made a ridiculous amt of soul fire before reforging his body , his body might just burn. Cause as it was mentioned soul fire truly separate an lord from gold
And an army of true gold cannot hope to bear the weakest of underlords due to it
