Cryptic Updates

10/19/2018

Last week, I promised that I’d update you on the state of my various projects! Here are those updates, in the form of cryptic but accurate statements.

Some of them are less cryptic than others.

Elder Empire: A man on a long journey may take many twists and turns, until even he cannot tell when he will arrive at his destination, but his journey continues regardless.

City of Light audio: The city’s gates groan as they prepare to open.

Soulsmith audio: In one turning of the moon, the world may change.

Underlord: The boy shifted in his chair, sweating. “I know I said I would stop crying wolf. I meant it, I swear. But it just rolls off the tongue so easily.” He straightened suddenly, stabbing his finger at the door. “LOOK OUT, A WOLF!” No one turned, and he shrank back. “Last time, I promise.”

He did warn that his "updates" were going to be cryptic. At least we know Underlord isnt going to be hitting the shelves any time soon. Back to grinding my teeth in anxiety waiting i guess.

I don`t know I`m gonna take it as there really is a wolf this time and Underlord is just around the corner(and it`s crying wolf because for the last two Cradle books he said OKAK will be finnished before the next Cradle).

Yup, I'm guessing it was the last time because they were all about to be eaten by a wolf. Can't cry wolf if your in the belly of the beast. Hope Simon is nearby to save the day.

Poor Simon. He should travel to Cradle and kill Linden. Then maybe he can get another book. He better hurry though. I'm pretty sure he can still take Linden right now, but if he waits much longer, it'll be trouble.

He is actually quiet good. Whenever I see him posting stuff here, and engaging his fan based, I enjoyed it. but I also fear that its wasted not working on his books. Haha. Although he does reply to my emails as well. All three of em. So he engages very well. Good man! Now go back to shaping the Will-o-verse!!

I personally love this update!

My interpretation is that EE is taking longer than expected with potentially a lot of rewriting. Don't expect it soon.

CoL Audiobook will be out soon. Probably less than 3 months.

Soulsmith Audiobook will be out in one month.

Underlord is progressing faster then OKAK, so we will probably get it first.

Just wanted to say that I love your stories. You've done a great job producing quality work at a reasonable pace, and I hope that the community involvement is nothing but a help to you!

Is it still helpful to leave book reviews on Amazon this long after the books have come out?

Reviews are pretty much always useful. Self-published authors basically live and die by their reviews. Just having more makes it so that Amazon's algorithm is more likely to show Cradle to people looking at fantasy novels.

This. Getting a new review, a good one, is a strong boost to an author's sales algorithms, a HUGE boost for their spirits on that day, and an even larger boost to their desire to keep writing content.

Elder Empire: Still working on it. It's not done, don't know when it will be.

City of Light audiobook: Will is either just barely getting started or almost ready to release it.

Soulsmith audio: Coming out next month.

Underlord: Underlord is going to come out before Elder Empire. Sorry.

OKAK, Will is aiming for November 1, 2018, but will miss that deadline and instead release December 1, 2018.

COL audio, this will be released November 1, 2018.

Soulsmith audio, release date slotted for December 1, 2018.

Underlord, on a previous post I prophesorized (hmm, maybe one too many syllables?) a release date of February 1, 2019, however, IMHO I believe March 1, 2019 to be a more accurate estimate.

Will your cryptic updates were better than actual ones. It also reminds me of your story telling. Eithan and his nonchalant everything will be fine attitude as well as the old man in the Travelers Gate and his cryptic warnings for Simon. Your books are amazing, can't wait for Underlord.

For some strange reason, I want to say ‘thank you’ to all the commenters who write encouraging messages. Discouragement does not help people to write…or to do anything, really.

So what are the chances of seeing a new book (any book) this year. If it takes 7-8 months for underlord, it's going to be next year and same for any elder empire book.

I expect so. Back before Cradle took off Will often talked about the sequel series to Traveler's Gate, which he'd named Traveler's Blade.

That was when before Will had success with Cradle. Now I think he knows what his winning formula is and can reliably cook off a new series whenever he wants, so he might want to try something new before Traveler's Blade.

I think a 12/01 release makes a lot of sense and my bet is that's when Will is aiming to release Underlord if all goes well. No one is productive during the holidays so I think that's the latest possible realistic date if he wants to release something more this year.

I think he DOES want to release another book this year. He likes to release twice a year to keep sales and income flowing. I can't remember him ever publishing less than 2 books in a year. I don't think he wants this year to be the exception. Plus, Cradle as a series is on a roll and has a lot of momentum right now. Underlord right before Christmas makes a ton of sense from a business perspective.

I don't think we'll see OKAK until next year. These are complex books made even more so by the dual nature of the books. I'm sure that their normal complexity is amplified by the fact that this is the climax of the series and everything has to be tied up into a satisfying ending. The sheer length of time it's taken him to write the books is testimony to how hard that is to do. Normally Will is a lightning quick writer. That it's takes this long I think shows just how difficult this is for him.

I've got to say that I'm very glad Will is writing OKAK. Not because it's my favorite series. But precisely because he's wrestling with it. The only way a writer can grow is to step outside their comfort zone and I like to think Will is being stretched as a writer by the Elder series. These books are larger and more complex than his other stuff and that bodes well for everything that he writes in the future. It bodes well for us as his fans because that means better books in the future for us all to read, no matter what series they may be.

He has a gold sign for BF but not for his pure core. BF sign is his red and black eyes when he is channeling his BF madra.

OK, so it's not an obvious goldsign like Yerrin's sword tentacles. the Naru wings, or Akura Harmony's disk. I thought the idea of a Truegold's goldsign was to be an obvious physical representation of their madra.

O it is very much an obvious one when he is using his BF core. It likely does not represent all the time due to his dual core setup. AND he has a contract with a live sacred beast instead of absorbing a remnant. It is theorized that he can get another gold sign for his pure core IF he absorbs a remnant for that or maybe contracts with another sacred beast.... we do not yet know and o believe Will has Said RAFO. (Read and find out)
