I had another blog post planned out for tonight, but in a happy coincidence someone actually sent me some Cradle art last night!
A fan who wishes to keep their True Name closely guarded commissioned this piece just to show what the Cradle main characters look like! Here's the artist's page, for those of you interested in their other work. I thought it was awesome! -Will

Huh. Thanks for linking the site. Us poor self published authors don't have the sales to justify hiring the artists that you do Will, but it seems like browsing that I could get some good artwork in the $200-300 range.

This doesn't really fit the stylistic form that book covers have to match.

looks awesome but, it is kinda weird that lindon looks like hes only a couple inches taller then yerin, I thought she was like 5.7-5.8 and he was like 6.1-6.2 feel like his head should be topping this page ;p

I completely agree. The artwork is fantastic but London was described many times as being tall and broad while Yerin was described as being small. The dimensions don’t match the book descriptions.

She really is much smaller than him in the picture. Maybe not quite as small as she should be, but not that much of a difference. She just seems larger and more imposing because she has two blade arms.

The story describes Lindon several times as having broad shoulders. It’s not just a height thing. I would not consider them to be broad in this artwork. I don’t want to give anyone the idea that I don’t like the artwork; it is a great rendition. I just think that he appears too small In his shoulders and height.

With as big a deal as was made about them constantly wearing robes, and how unusual pants were, their clothing really ruins the image for me a bit, not that the art itself isn’t really good. That, and I always pictured the “belt” of hers to be much more substantial, practically a thick rope, rather than a little string. Still, fun to see them depicted like that.

Well, I always imagined their robes as martial artist robes specifically Wushu uniforms. Which happen to be a shirt and a pair of pants.

Awesome art work, love the colour work. Though personally I'd thought of the robes more like what Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh wore in Crouching Tiger, just with more vivid colour and patterns.

Ha, you should get something more representational Will, With something like this, you'll only get adolescent know-nothings or their adult equivalents reading your books. You should wipe tissue paper and some ink on paper into a vaguely human shape and try to get it something impressionistic.

Oh man are we allowed to bash Terry Goodkind on here? I mean, Will probably must maintain his silence for professional reasons, but the guy's taste in cover art is laughably bad. He's lucky Tor puts up with him, because he'd never make it in self-publishing.

You forgot to mention how your work is philosophy and to throw in some Ayn Rand.

And there's also the obligatory mention of how you have completely revolutionized the fantasy genre while not actually deigning to write fantasy yourself because, after all, you write literature.

Very true. The kinds of people who like my books are the kind who read real literature. People read The Republic by Plato, and then they read Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle, then Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche, and then they read my books. Saving the best for last of course.
