I saw some people on the subreddit discussing supposed "spoilers" for Cradle 8 that weren't written by me, and I wanted to clear the record today.

None of what I'm discussing here will be severe spoilers that will ruin your time with the book or anything, but if you're severely spoiler-averse, you might want to sit this one out.

I'm just going to clear up some of the rumors that are spreading about the Cradle 8 content.

So rumor #1: This book is going to be all about Yerin.

FALSE!

It's going to be 90% about Yerin, and the remaining 10% will follow my new favorite protagonist, Sopharanatoth the gold dragon.

Rumor #2: We're going to go back to Kelsa's storyline in Sacred Valley.

FALSE!

That was a one-time thing. We got a glimpse into what's happening in Sacred Valley, and then we will never ever go back there again. Everyone in Sacred Valley is already dead by this point in the storyline anyway, so there would be no point.

Rumor #3: Lindon likes pineapple on his pizza.

FALSE!

There are only a few rules about writing a protagonist that can't be broken, and one of them is that the protagonist can't like pineapple on pizza. All audience sympathy is lost immediately, and records show that 98% of readers will throw down the book in disgust. The remaining 2% are perverts.

Rumor #4: Eithan will unleash his full power in this book.

I really hope that the Kelsa story not being done anymore is an April fool's joke. Especially since it gave the little tidbit about there being something wrong with the valley and why everyone cant be a gold. Could explain how jade's were able to kill a saint. No poison they made should have been enough.

Kinda lost the hype for this series. Don't think I'm too interested in what happens anymore. I'll read it, but only to see if it has any redeeming qualities after the last one. If its on par with the last I may just drop the whole series. Kinda sad, as I've followed it since the second book, but wouldn't be the first time a series has let me down (looking at you, Eragon).

Btw, I mean no disrespect. I have immense respect for the legacy you've created for yourself in only the 3 series you've written. The world building and excellency of the Traveler's Gate Series was an amazing opening to the world of fantasy, and I can not see a world where you're not hailed as much of an icon as Sanderson. With that said, keep on doin you. One disappointed fan is just a way a live for a rising star author.

That mentioned, it would explain why so many of the authors I read have had some HEMA/martial arts experience somewhere.

Plot twist - Sanderson isn't on top just because he writes well. He is also great with a longsword.

I have been reading these since the first, have you just read the book one time? Not going to lie, the first time I read it I was kind of disappointed (probably because I hyped myself up to much) but then I read it a second time and thought it was amazing. Now i've read it like 8 times, third only to ghostwater and Underlord. I think I missed a lot the first time I read it. Just food for thought.

I've read up to Ghostwater 4 times, Underlord twice and Uncrowned once. It's more of a lack of motivation to reread it again. I've tried but knowing how bad Uncrowned is spoils the greatness of the ones before it.

Being that today is April 1 I feel that it would be unwise to trust anything. I didn't actually trust that the sun was going to rise in the east this morning. It seemed likely, but it is April 1. That doesn't mean that nothing in this post is true. The bit about pineapple on pizza for instance has to be true.

Hey Will,

When I first read Uncrowned, I was disappointed at the result of the fight between Yerin and Lindon.
10,234 re-reads later and I have to say, that fight is the most gripping I have read. I loved it, they were both amazing and it would have been mildly unfeasible for Lindon to have won the fight.
I can't wait to see what Wintersteel has in store for us!

PS: I hope you make Lindon suffer as much as possible, he seems to enjoy sadistic training regimes, haha.

From reading what will has said in other places, I believe that this book will not be all about Yerin. Will mentioned, and I’m paraphrasing heavily here: “I originally intended Winter steel to be about Yerin, but as I started writing uncrowned I realized the story wouldn’t match up how I wanted it to, and it doesn’t make sense to do that. Yerin will be there, but this is a Lindon book.”

A lot of what Will says is subject to change, so take it with a grain of salt, and take my paraphrasing with a grain of salt. Take everything will says prior to release with a grain of salt. Salt is very important (and by taking everything too literally it makes it harder for Will to release spoilers, because they bind him to those statements).

I believe that he could have said Ethan Is going all out on other places, but I cannot remember clearly, and confirming it would be a disservice. It is likely, considering where the story is going, but do not consider it fact.

Even though that is what I have read and believe, don’t take it as a guarantee he will do this, things are subject to change.

I loved the book from the beginning to the fight between Lindon and yerin, as disappointed as I was with yerin beating Lindon I understand the reality of the fight, yerin have been training for years with a sage, Lindon started his training at 16, will would be a joke if Lindon in anyway wins that fight.

But secretly held out for a tie in the fight and Lindon improving more

Please will, can you release winter steel soon?

PS: Ethan is on first name bases with skyworn emperor. Which makes me think and assume his more powerful than will made us believe
