So, apparently I'm the Fantasy Writer of the Day over on r/fantasy. I guess somebody signed me up a few weeks ago, and now I'm supposed to do an AMA today.

Cool!

If you guys wanted to hop on over to Reddit and ask me questions, the link is here. I realize that you can and do ask me anything in the comments section of this blog, but if you wanted to drop on by and leave me a question or two, why, that would be stupendous.

If you're Reddit-ignorant, that's okay! A reddit.com account is free. Make one. Then go to this link and ask me questions. AMA stands for Ask Me Anything, so that's what you get to do.

Yeah, you thought I was going to say "That's okay! Ask me questions here instead of on Reddit!"

But no. Take that, expectations.

Will, you have a deadline! Tomorrow is 29th....you have to give us the Crimson vault!!! I know you said 29th was only tentative, but that does not matter to us....we have been counting down minutes since you gave us that date! Minutes, I tell you!

Raj, this is a great opportunity for me to address how Kindle Direct Publishing works.

I'm finishing up the book right now. Once I do that, I'll have to format the book into an appropriate Kindle-formatted file, which should take a couple of hours.

I expect to complete that process late tonight, probably midnight or 1 AM (Eastern time, since I'm on the east coast of the U.S.).

After that, the file is uploaded to Amazon, where they look for problems: copyright infringement, formatting issues, whatever. If they approve, the file goes up for sale on Amazon in roughly twelve hours. Sometimes it takes less time than that, but the real problem comes in when they DON'T approve the upload the first time.

If, for whatever reason, Amazon thinks I'm trying to upload someone else's story, or there's some formatting error, or any of a thousand possible problems with the upload process, then I have to fix that problem and re-upload. That means it'll be however long it takes me to fix the problem PLUS another 8-12 hours.

So the whole thing is very flexible. The earliest possible date and time, if God smiles upon me and there are no problems at all from here on out, is 9-10 AM Eastern time tomorrow morning.

But it could be later than that. It could be much later.

So all I can say is keep an eye on the blog, keep an eye on my Twitter, keep an eye on Facebook. I'll be announcing in all those places both when I upload the file and when it's ready for sale.

There you go, that's the best estimate I can give you. Thanks for waiting, and I'm working as hard as I can to get the book to you ASAP!

Working hard! Making progress. I have sworn that I will not sleep until I submit Crimson Vault to Amazon.

Which basically means that I'll be a zombie when I leave for DragonCon tomorrow.

But it's worth it.

Kudos to you sir, for being so engaged with your fans and so quick to reply to their posts. I am impressed, and I hope that years from now I can say I've been a fan since the days of Traveler's Gate.

Right now, I wish I could upvote your comment. I'm exhausted, and I'm waiting for my friend to finish proofreading the last Crimson Vault scene. Then I can begin formatting for upload.

HoB SPOILERS

Okay, this topic addresses the reddit comments, so spoilers shouldn't be a problem.

A few observations from the reddit today:

Chaka observed that Kai spends a lot of time at a grave, and Will said this was addressed in chapter one of CV. This leads me to believe that he was referring to the Hanging Tree, and the 'grave' is Valins.

There are at least 11 territories including Valinhall

Simon and Alin will not fight in CV

Will is susceptible to bribes, as are the bears of Elysium.

Will likes P&J sandwiches, standard shipping is fine, but freight is best.

Will likes Sanderson but didn't think Rothfus was worthy of a mention.

I did not read the AMA, but it is not news that there are at least 11 territories. There were at least these 11 I saw mentioned in House of Blades:

Well done listing them all! I don't think I could have listed all of them off the top of my head without really searching for them based on reading only the first book, and i've read the first book over half a dozen times. Everyone should definitely be more familiar with the territories after the second one though!
