YES I LOVE YOU
I NEED MORE BUT THANK YOU THIS FIX WILL KEEP ME GOING
So any more news about the release :3 I cant wait :P *inner struggle* But you know, take you time and stuff... Looking great though!!! Hopefully this will tide me over :D
Nice. Want to learn more about diamond and other abilities and see Simon confront the fact that steamrolled his parents.
Errrmagerrrddd (ermagerding like a douche) you are a GOD.
Also, have never wanted it to be the end of the month so badly!!
Awesome start, Will! Thanks!!
Damn!! Who would have thought to start at the beginning?, not I for one. I approve, it feels right and good to do it this way. Much better than some novel sequels which spend half the first chapter dully summarizing the general plot of the first book.
I'm looking forward to purchasing your novel upon release. Thanks Will for releasing this a bit early.
What a dastardly plan, right? Starting at the beginning. What a fiend I am!
Ah!! I cannot wait for the release of book #2!! Thank you for the preview!
I foresee calling Diamond to be a major problem in the future for Simon.
I should clarify; I foresee Simon obtaining Diamond, using it to remove his fear, and, fearless, putting himself in a very, very bad position.
Very cool. Can't wait for the book. That preview was awesome.
The ravenous reading tree rips off great big chunks from tasty paragraphs with obscene enjoyment, giving off disturbing sounds of mincing and grinding as sentences and words are chewed into a deliciously moist and satisfying bolus…
I love that we get into the head of another badass Dragon warrior. You are awesome to feed your hungry, clamoring fans with such good food. This is the nicest thing an author has done that I know of. Please take your time with the unveiling of the rest of this feast, which your slobbering legions are sure to devour with gusto!
I thought reading the first chapter would make the wait easier. I was wrong. This morning I was irritated the chapter wasn't up yet. Now I know that reading it just makes waiting harder...
Great first chapter.
Lol wanted to read this so much I used my phone instead of waiting for a computer.. Or just a bigger screen :)
Take my money!
reaching his face in less than second. (fight with Asphodel traveler)
Fire your pre-readers, they missed a spot.
Once you read Chapter 1, you're going to laugh.
Mwahahahaha...I'm sure that's what you meant. wait...which part was funny? I'm sooooo confused!
You must be mistaken, Brian.
Sorry folks, I'm sure that little error will set Will back by at least a month. It's tragic I know, but we wouldn't want him to publish anything that wasn't perfect would we? I mean the letter 'a' is the most important letter in the alphabet. Without the letter 'a' we wouldn't know where to begin. You can't just start with the letter 'B' even though it is completely awesome, as opposed to a letter like 'W' which is just a made up letter anyway.
I hate when he's lurking just waiting to ambush my posts like that
As a pre-reader, the mistake was caught, I just wasn't available today to let Will know before he wanted to release the chapter for you all. No worries, I hate word mistakes as much as anyone, and there should be very few, if any mistakes left that the pre-readers and Will himself haven't found before the book is released on kindle.
Plus I let him know about the mistake before you're post. So ha! The day is mine trebek! (In my horrible Sean Connery voice)
And don't let the fact that my iPad misinterpreted "your" for "you're" undermine that post lol. Weebly needs an edit button.
So I'm guessing Simon will be hanging out with Indirial's daughter this book. She seems a sort of predictable love interest.
Indirial is pretty cool though, and the extra perspective is always nice.
It's possible that Will kills Kai, Andra, Leah, Caela, Alin, Alin's unintroduced sisters, and/or Simon.
I don't want to put any House of Blades spoilers on this page because it lacks the functionality to handle them. Otherwise I'd have been theorizing about what may happen in TCV for some time.
While I agree about Indirial's daughter being a good love interest for Simon it's would be in Norway predictable. From what we were told in the last book she's a master swordsman (or as close as she can get at her age) she would eat Simon for breakfast.
For the record Indirial is by far my favourite character in the series.
*no way not Norway. Bloody iPad
No we don't know that. Simon is a Valinhall traveler that could hit her with a thousand pound tree (probably). We don't know if she's a traveler, even though it's probable. Although he's probably gonna get his ass handed to him by Indiral.
True, skill-wise there is no comparison, but it hasn't been stated whether she is a Valinhall traveller herself yet. Plus Simon probably went back to Valinhall to finish his training at the end of the last book. That should get him caught up in a hurry.
Indirial is a pretty awesome character. Dunno if hes my favorite yet, as he still needs more screen-time. At least we can say that he is one of the good guys, even if it isn't clear yet whether his boss is.
Love where this is going, but I do have a question. What power did Simon get for the room after the library it never does say. Also any possibility of Simon picking up another territory? I realize that he has nowhere near finished Vauxhall but I am curious about the possibility.
AutoCorrect, huh? Sucks.
I can neither confirm nor deny your suspicions. But he does have a lot of the House to go.
Perfect...now just release once chapter everyday till the release of book...I can live with that
Is it just me or is any one else wondering what happened to Valin? And the incarnations. The definition has scary potental. And what dose it have to do with Valinhall? Are they the same Kai's warning about the chains and the mysterious incarnations under the red trees.
Great first chapter can't wait for the rest. Lots to think about :)
My guess would be that Valin became an incarnation. And probably got permanent 'diamond' and other abilities.
From book 1 & this chapter I'm still convinced that Incarnations are just that. Manifestations of their territory through their travelers. A traveler draws too deep and the territory in all its terrible glory takes control.
I am too. Especially since Will has confirmed that his blade is no longer in use.
I never confirm anything!
But what you have said is accurate.
I can't wait for the crimson vault (>,<). thankfully I've just finished reading House of Blades and decided to find out when the next sequel is going to come out. I'm so happy that it won't be that long now. Keep up the good work Mr. Wight :) (I'll be checking this site often just in case u want to put in some more chapters *hint*hint*)
p.s: I keep thinking that those reincarnation hidden under the tree are the original valin and his dragon army. and while I like Simon (despite his impatience), feel free to kill alin and leah if you want.:)
Well since I continue to stalk your blog, I might as well comment, for the hundred or so time. But I agree with Amelya. Particularly Alin. I don't really like him much
I don't like Alin much either. He shouldn't die but something bad should happen to him that has a poetic justice to it. Like he should be frozen by the green crystal of patience or whatever and Simon should take over the prophecy.
I don't think that Simon should take over the prophecy but I do like the tidbit about the green crystal death. Rather ironically poetic. Here that Will? Your fans have more imagination than you.
Was that intended to be an insult, mike? Is this the YouTube comments section now, that we insult each other? Is that how low we've fallen?
Bryce, I'd be interested to see what you think of Alin after reading Crimson Vault. There are a few more Alin scenes in this one, and he grows up a little bit.
I'm not saying you won't still hate him, I'd just be interested to know what you think his ultimate fate should be after Crimson Vault.
Of course not Will, just a matter of fact statement
I'm gonna take a guess that both Simon and Alin get beat up really badly and it humbles them. Probably by Leah. Ill keep Alin in mind when reading the book but it will be harder to focus on the awesomeness that is Simon.
Perhaps Alin should be trapped in a room locked from the outside, full of old judges reciting boring poetry, and he can only leave once he starts enjoying it. This would be to force him to gain the patience required for the green sphere. That would be poetic justice. We could even make a reality tv show based on that.
Not Leah, she has potential, but Alin is wood league by all means kill him
So Alin doesn't die in this book then. That being based on Will's comment about how we will think about him after this book.
Hmm i wonder what is at the end of the hall? Maybe Valin himself is the last room and you become super saiyan when you defeat him :O
You've nailed it. They get blond, spiky hair and everything.
Note: WIll posted his picture in the Ancient City Con thread. Now we KNOW he hasn't made it to the end of the hall. ;-)
I think Valin is trapped in the Vault.
That's not necessarily true, Brian. Nobody stays in Super Saiyan form all the time.
Not even me.
Will is SSJ4 ...super saiyan 4!
They are not blonde
I see a future problem with the diamond. Eventually Simon will get it and then to make everything simpler (which is what the diamond does) he might kill everyone under the influence of the diamond. Just a guess. and the only reason that's plausible is because Will had said in another blog post that they might not all survive
No one survives! No one!
I have a feeling Brian, that Will is envisioning you as the character with the most gruesome death. That my friend, is not a guess
My goal is to attain a spot as a cameo character who dies a most gruesome death. Seams like I'm on the right track here...that being said, I should be perfectly safe now.
And will of course, thought of me when he created Erastes, the Damascan Captain that will outlast everyone. Not even Will thought about killing me
Ahh, see that 'Will', he can't even bother to capitalize your name. I think you should take that statement as his last 'will' and testament and have Erastes trip over a rock in the garden and break his neck. That 'will' fix him for slighting your name like that.
But if you look closer Brian, you'll see that I simply forgot to properly cite his name once. At the very beginning. And I can always blame that on auto correct.
Great start. Loved seeing the alternative perspective.
Are you going to Dragoncon? We'll be hanging with the Jordancon folks, we're yearly attendees.
Yep, I'll be there. I'm just attending because I've never been to DragonCon before; should be fun.
I was wondering if there are plans to publish House of Blades as an audiobook on Audible? It would be awesome if there are. I started using whispersync (or trying to anyway) with Blood Song. If House of Blades was an audiobook, I would snatch it up in a heartbeat.
I agree it would be awesome. Oddly enough I have been trying to use whispersync on the same book.
I've tried it on my Android tablet and phone. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can listen on the Audible app but it doesn't sync the page on the Kindle book.
I'm so curious to know how the narrator would speak Kai's singsong voice. Or the dolls and other advisors.
I agree with one of the comments about Indirial being a good guy at heart. But I'm curious now about the circumstances of his becoming an Overlord of Cana between the time he rescued Simon and ten years later.
The Jack Reacher series
Oops posted in the wrong place
Thank you so much for posting the chap Will. I really appreciate it. But now i'm not going to sleep all of Wednesday and Thursday. Not until I have devoured Crimson Vault.
Any good book recommendations in the meantime?
There are TONS of good books. Uh there is Harbinger its a self- publish too. Uh so many i cant think, Galactic Mage is good, so is The Innkeepers Son thats alright, A Crucible of Souls is good, A madness of Angles is good. Tons and Tons
Jack Teacher series
Thanx for the help guys. I have read quite a few of the recommended titles but i'll look into innkeepers son.
Well I'm glad that another power in the dragons 13 has been shown. Hope there's more to come. It just seems like the other travelers have more diversity in their powers. But maby that's what makes the dragon 13 so good. Simplicity and maby future sayian powers. But seriously, what DID Simon get in the library?
Lol, I know everyone is impatient to learn more. But don't worry, you'll learn a lot from the second book and many of the questions on this blog will be answered or built on in a few short days. :)
Wisdom man.... wisdom, but Simon has not yet discovered what that means
Lol...The library thing has been bothering me too. I can't wait for the second book. Mr. Wight keep it up!!!
P.s. forget about a trilogy, keep writing and make it a series. :)
The library was explained. His reward for conquering the library was the opportunity to learn. It's jam packed with knowledge. Now if only Simon could read...He'd probably just complain that it isn't on a Kindle.
Good lord Will I have another question. Well more than one but let's discuss on this one. When Indirial had used the Nye essence, he still had to breathe out of the box they first gave him. But all Simon had to do was breathe it in once and he could call it just like Benson's steel. Why is that?
Oops actually I miss read that. Sorry, I thought that he physically had the box with him. Didn't process the part that he mentally thought about the box that they Eldest had given him long ago. My bad
I cannot decide if you posted this to satisfy us, or to torture us...
A healthy dose of both likely. Not too much longer though, a couple days tops.
Man, I loved it. But did anyone else notice a conspicuous lack of our ursine brethren? I seem to remember the bears with jetpacks flying in from Alinland to help Indirial take down the Naraka traveler in the first chapter of House of Blades. This is possibly a serious error, someone should tell Will.
What did Simon get in the forge room were battled the flaming snake?
were he battled not were battled
...had to be a grammar nazi.
He doesn't get something from every room. Think of it, with the what I assume to be a large amount of rooms, it would be nigh impossible, not to mention improbable, that he would. Then again, I could be wrong.
Feed Alin to the Dolls. The dolls all gain access to Elysia. Glowing, traveler dolls stalk and kill everyone. When you start to hear them in your head, you are next. Simon dies first.
...maybe it's because I'm tired, but that actually sounds like a good idea to me right now.
Bad Will! No changing to a horror story halfway through!
Nay nay! It would be comedy. Rest of story from Kai's POV as he chases his precious little dollies. He dies last, in bliss. They pet him, with knives. They comb his hair, until his scalp is bleeding and raw. They sing to him, songs of how everyone else screamed.
Caela *Will... Will?*
Too scary. Do not want.
So it's to be released tomarrow? What time I want to be first to buy it. Lol
I will be the first to buy it. By virtue of not telling anyone it's up until after I purchase a copy.
That said, I have no way of knowing when it will go up. I'm still aiming for tomorrow, but I'm not done putting the finishing touches on it yet. Also, it takes 10-14 hours for Amazon to put the book up for sale, so even after I upload it, it will be a while before we can buy it.
That said, I promise I'll post BOTH when I upload the book AND when it goes up for sale. Twitter, Facebook, and blog. I'm doing my best to keep you guys updated.
Well, thanks! I'm looking forward to this.
I just want to know if Simon gets an ability involving the chains the Nye are always trying to choke him with. I can picture it in my warped little mind Azura in front of Simon in one hand and with his other he shoots out a chain like Scorpion from Mortal Combat, yelling,"Get over here!" pulling Alin to him to be impaled on Azura.
Two questions will Simon ever get any armor like he saw in the armory at Valinhall? Is it likely that we can ever read about what happened (with all the juicy, albeit gruesome detail) when Simon faced off against all those Travellers at the end of book 1?
If this was a fighting game, then Simon would absolutely have that ability. It's too awesome not to have.
And I can say without too many spoilers that the armory does, indeed, have a power. Simon just hasn't earned it yet.
As for the battle at the end of Book 1...maybe. It's not in Book 2, so don't get your hopes up for that. If I do write it, I'll likely just put it up on the blog.
Amazon has weird ways of determining if a work is in violation of copyright, so I may have to take this chapter down when I begin uploading The Crimson Vault.
I'll put it back up once Crimson Vault is available for sale.
Anyway, if this blog post suddenly disappears, you'll know that's good news. It means I'm uploading Crimson Vault to Amazon :)
Please remove it ASAP so I can get my new book!
You rule so hard. Look forward to the book. Don't let the money change you ;-). But take yourself a nice break, well earned.
Thanks, Tim! I don't know if I'm making quite enough money for it to change me, but it's enough to live on, which is shocking enough.
Thanks for reading!
Hey Will I know you had said that the book will take a while to upload to Amazon but it's says it's already available. But when I tried to buy it if said it wasn't available in my country. (I live in USA) so is that part of the uploading process or is it fault of my own kindle?
P.S. sorry for the tech. Questions. If my CEO knew I had trouble with online book, well I try not to think about it lol
